FISHERY PRODUCT PROCESSING | INDUSTRIAL PLANTS | SURVEYS | INDUSTRIAL EQUIPMENT | ENGINEERING

To meet the demands of a growing population, the Malaysian government is encouraging the upgrading of small food-processing plants. The purpose of this project is to improve operations, and hence productivity, profitability, and product quality, of Malaysia's small-scale keropok (fish cracker) factories. Researchers will document the processing and economic conditions of selected keropok factories; develop and test improved operating and control procedures in five factories; and disseminate results to keropok manufacturers.

Labu project

PENGURUSAN Aset Air Berhad (PAAB) and Salcon Berhad celebrated the official commencement of construction of the Labu water treatment plant at a ground-breaking ceremony recently.

Salcon Engineering Berhad. a wholly-owned subsidiary of Salcon Berhad, was awarded a contract by PAAB for the designing and building of a water treatment plant and associated works at Sungai Labu, Selangor valued at RM84.21mil.

The project forms part of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Alternative Water Supply Scheme and involves the construction of a water treatment plant with total nominal capacity of 105 MLD.

The project encompasses the design, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance, training and handover jobs and will be completed in two stages. Stage 1 works to supply 52.5 MLD will be completed within 12 months while the second stage which consists of another 52.5 MLD is to be completed within 18 months from June 1.

Salcon Berhad CEO How See Hock said: “Salcon is committed to ensuring provision of quality water for use at KLIA as well as the surrounding areas of Salak Tinggi, Tampoi, Semenyih and Cheras with the timely completion of the project.”

PAAB chairman Datuk Seri Diraja Tajol Rosli Ghazali, PAAB chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Faizal Abdul Rahman and Salcon Berhad deputy chairman Datuk Tee Tiam Lee were present at the ceremony which was also attended by other stakeholders such as the local authorities, investors and local villagers.

This project will boost Salcon’s order book to nearly RM1.3bil and is expected to contribute positively to the earnings of the group. Local construction contracts account for approximately 80% of the group’s outstanding order books while overseas contracts account for the balance 20%.

In terms of expanding the Group’s income base, Salcon, to-date, owns and operates seven water concessions and one wastewater concession in Linyi Municipality and Changle County in Shandong Province, Haining city in Zhejiang Province, Nanan City in Fujian Province and Yizheng City in Jiangsu Province, all in China, as well as Binh An in Vietnam.
